Chronic pain comes with many up's and downs. The up's are having good days which consist of being able to be on my feet for more than a few hours with out taking breakthrough meds and not having to lay down with the heating pad....though the day can change from good to bad and vice versa. so you learn to adapt and change your plans to your pain level. Standing too long, sitting too long, laying down too long, leaning too long ... it can make the day hard. The bad days, or downs are being confined to the bedroom or living room laying down only to get up to use the bathroom, trying not to take meds which cause more OIC problems. The heating pad is my friend, I dont travel. without it! It's not that a person with chronic pain is limited to certain things at specific times of the day... it's more like living, adjusting and making decisions based on how you feel before deciding what you will do. This seems like common sense...but people with chronic pain are constantly aware of those decisions to avoid future pain. We know how much we can do and how long we will suffer if we choose to push ourselves past a certain point. It like someone who is lactose intolerant choosing to eat ice cream because they want the ice cream bad enough to go through the pain after. Sometimes, I choose to over stress my body even though I know I may be in bed for 1-4 days after in mega pain, body and mind fatigue & exhaustion...I guess I am just stubborn... but sometimes it is worth it to me. Personally, I try to pretend I'm not in pain in front, or have to excuse myself early or decline invites, or/and take breakthrough medications so I can get back to the hotel room (events) or home. It's hard to go to events knowing I have to "look" like I feel good and am able to answer questions knowledgable ...BUT its totally worth it in the end! I love talking we I have to say, 2018 was a memorable year. I have met many wonderful people in my journey with The She-Squatchers, I am so thankful I could join the team!
